The King’s Shilling

For defence and the truth

Project brief
For this project, I designed a 12-page printed newspaper proposal aimed at a specific community, focusing on imaginative and original editorial design. My role involved researching the audience, developing the visual identity, creating flexible layout grids, and designing all editorial content, ranging from headline pages and feature articles to listings and infographics. I also built a working InDesign template and produced a full-size printed dummy with a detailed design specification.

The King’s Shilling is a newspaper focused on UK and international defence affairs. Designed to combine traditional and modern visual styles, it reflects military history while staying clear, engaging, and accessible. Its pages include news, analysis, infographics, and cultural supplements, making complex topics easier to understand. It is intended for readers interested in defence, global security, and armed forces culture. The King’s Shilling offers credible, impartial coverage for a broad audience of enthusiasts, professionals, and scholars.
